On March 1, the Albert College Panthers took home gold twice in one day, at the CISAA (Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association’s) winter championship games, in Junior Girls Volleyball and Senior Boys Basketball.
The Junior Girls Volleyball team went on the road for their championship game and brought home the gold. The team put forth a strong effort executing on both offence and defence and went undefeated for the day. In the end, they won over Toronto Montessori School 3-0 in the final. Dianne Purdie, Albert’s Assistant Head – Senior School, said, “This was a season of tremendous growth as a result of hard work during practices and teamwork while on the court. This teamwork was what made it possible for the team to make it into the final match, and ultimately, win over the only undefeated team all season. The players dug deep and played each point as the winning point, until the final whistle.” This win was extra special as it was Ms. Purdie’s final year of coaching volleyball, as she is set to retire in June.
The Senior Boys Basketball team hosted the championship game at home at Albert College, winning against The York School, 60-38. The team was energized by a gym packed with students, parents, alumni and staff cheering them on.
