Hastings—Lennox and Addington MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman, has joined calls by conservatives to cut carbon and gas taxes during the summer to combat the rising cost of living.
The call by Pierre Polievre and other conservatives seeks to have the federal government pause the Carbon Tax, Gas Tax and GST from Victoria Day until Labour Day.
In a press release on Friday, Kramp-Neuman said that the taxes were making road trip vacations out of reach as families struggle to pay for essentials.
Kramp-Neuman highlighted the rising costs faced by Canadian families, with families paying an estimated $700 more for food this year than in 2023, record demand for service at community food banks, and gas prices surging 50% higher since Trudeau took office.
