With a week left to file nomination papers for October’s municipal election, some Quinte West wards have more available seats than council candidates.
The number of candidates for mayor remains at three.
Incumbent Jim Harrison will be challenged by current Ward 2 Councillor Karen Sharpe as well as Claudor du-Lude who has run unsuccessfully for the municipality’s top job several times.
So far there are only four candidates in Ward 1 Trenton where there are five seats available.
Sally Freeman, David O’Neil and Leslie Roseblade have all announced they are running again.
Jason Young is also running in Ward 1.
In Ward 2 Sidney, two of the four current councillors are looking to be reelected.
Alan DeWitt and Don Kuntze have filed papers.
Egerton Boyce is also running in Ward 2 where there are four seats.
Ward 3 Sidney has just two seats.
Incumbents Jim Alyea and David McCue are the only two candidates so far.
And current Councillor Lynda Reid has some competition in Ward 4 Frankford, where Greg Covell has also announced his intention to run for the ward’s only seat.
The nomination period ends August 19 with the municipal election scheduled for October 24.
