The current mayor and a former mayor still the only two candidates seeking the City of Belleville’s top job, while 16 people have now filed papers to run for council.
Incumbent Mitch Panciuk is running against former Mayor Neil Ellis.
Meanwhile, the race for the eight councillor seats in Ward 1 continues to heat up with 13 people now having filed papers to run in Belleville.
Chris Mallette, Kelly McCaw, Garnet Thompson, Carol Feeney and Sean Kelly are running to keep their seats.
Lisa Anne Chatten, Barbra Enright-Miller, Nick Borestski, Margaret Seu, Jeremy T. Davis, Richard T. Black, Robert Labarge and Mike Benson have also filed papers.
There are still just three candidates in Ward 2 (Thurlow) where there are only two seats.
Paul Carr and Bill Sandison, who are both seeking reelection, will have competition from Kathryn Brown.
The municipal election is October 24, 2022.
