A Frankford Public School kindergarten teacher has been recognized for her dedication and has a chance at winning as much as $25,000 for her school.
Jennifer Broad is one of 100 winners of Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Giving Joy contest honouring educators for their commitment to teaching.
She won a free cruise for two.
Broad jokes that she’s never won anything and thanks everyone who voted.
“I just am overwhelmed with all of the support that we really had from our community. I certainly never expected that, and, you know, people I don’t even know were just really behind it all the time so that was really exciting and my heart’s really full with that and so much gratitude to everybody.”
During the cruise in October, three grand prize winners will be announced receiving $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000, respectively for their school.
Broad was fourth overall in voting at the close of the contest but is hoping that when the final votes are tallied she can slip into one of those top three spots.
“Ended up being our goal really in the end. Once, once we saw how quickly we climbed up and we could see that potential for the school, it was not always about winning the cruise it was about winning money for the school.”
Broad isn’t sure what the school will do with the money if she is one of the grand prize winners but expects it to be a collaborative decision between administration, teachers and parent council.
She’s taking her husband Tony with her on the cruise.
Broad is not the only local winner.
Neil Kerby of Loyalist College is also in the top 100.
He is a Professor and Coordinator of the College’s Community and Justice Services program.
