What the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health has been able to do with the more than $77,000 raised thanks to the Maurice Rollins’ Day of Remembrance has been extraordinary.
That, according to Executive Director Sandie Sidsworth.
Maurice Rollins, who passed away June 3, 2021, was a local champion for mental health support.
The radiothon in his name on our Quinte Broadcasting stations on June 16, 2021 raised almost $38,800 and that amount was matched by the Maurice & Marilyn Rollins Foundation.
Sidsworth says those funds have helped keep their community counselling programs running, in turn, helping hundreds of local individuals.
“We know it was over 400 people and that included some groups. And we were able to bounce back – we had some in-person counselling but, when lockdowns happened, we would revert to phones. But, it, it all happened because of the generosity of the community.”
Sidsworth says to honour that community support and show what it has accomplished, they’re releasing a video and series of vignettes featuring people the centre has helped.
“We have the amazing Aaron and Angela Bell from Lock 48 came out and they just did a beautiful job of speaking with seven individuals and getting what this place means to them and where hope has come from.”
The videos are available on YouTube and the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health’s Facebook page.
Donations to the centre can be made here.
Donations to the United Way or Belleville General Hospital Foundation – other charities close to Maurice would also be greatly appreciated.
