He loved golf, he loved his community, and he loved maple whiskey.
All of those things will come together this August for the Pioneer John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic, supporting the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation
At Thursday’s Annual General Meeting of TMHF, the Board of Directors announced a name change from the TMHF Golf Classic.
This year’s tournament is presented by Pioneer Healthcare.
Foundation Executive Director Wendy Warner talked to Quinte News about what Smylie meant to the community.
“Everything. John was everything to everybody. He was a family man, he was compassionate, he was caring, he was dedicated and loyal and protective of his staff through COVID. Our hospital through the fight of our lives back in 2015, John was the leader.”
Smylie passed away last week at the age of 64, and will be celebrated, mourned, and honoured this coming weekend.

Peter Webb is the Golf Committee Chair and says naming the tournament after Smylie was a no-brainer.
“Especially him being so involved with the hospital foundation, in the community. Well-deserved and he enjoyed playing in the tournament every year, supported it from steaks to money, all the way through.”
