The City of Belleville has announced the latest doctor to sign through its doctor recruitment program.
Dr. Chinenye Uzondu will be moving from the United Kingdom to Belleville this summer with her family to join her husband, who is already practising as a family physician in the city.
Dr. Uzondu is expected to begin her practice later this year.
“It is truly our pleasure to welcome Dr. Chinenye Uzondu to Belleville, and our city couldn’t be happier she has chosen to practise here,” said Mayor Neil Ellis in a press release.
“Her education and experience will help provide excellent care to our residents, and she will make a positive difference in many lives.”
“I am excited to begin this next phase of my life and career with the people of Belleville,” said Dr. Uzondu in the same release.
Her contract was approved by Belleville council at its meeting on Monday.
While health care and physician recruitment are not municipal responsibilities, to date, the program has recruited more than 60 physicians and 10 nurse practitioners, with more than $9 million committed through a variety of funding sources.
