Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting 29 new cases of COVID-19 Friday.
With 35 new recoveries that lowers the active total of cases to 249.
HPE Public Health has also reported the first confirmed case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant in the region.
Little information was given about the case, only that there is no history of travel.
The cases are split nearly right down the middle with 15 found in fully vaccinated people and 14 found in unvaccinated people.
The cases continue to be spread out in the region with 12 in Belleville, four each in Quinte West, Prince Edward County and Centre Hastings, three in North Hastings and one each in Tyendinaga and Deseronto and Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
A majority of the new cases, 11, are in the 18-29 age group.
There are still 20 active outbreaks in the area and to date 85% of the eligible population in HPE have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 78% have had two doses.
There are currently seven people hospitalized with the virus with five of them in the intensive care unit.
The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit reported four new cases Friday and 20 active.
