A 17-year-old Belleville native is making a push to compete for Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Actually Hallie Clark is pushing a sled, jumping on and speeding head first down a frozen track. In other words, Clarke is a Skeleton racer. Skeleton sleds reach speeds of 140 kilometres and more.
Clarke, now living and training in Calgary, is a member of the Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton team, currently competing at the Intercontinental Cup in Innsbruck Austria.
On Friday she finished in third place and was the top Canadian among 20 competitors from around the world.
Clarke is the newest Canadian slider to break into the women’s squad. She won medals last year on the North American circuit.
She has consistently placed in the top five in all of her competitions in 2021 and has a good chance of qualifying for the Beijing winter games.
