The Frankford Huskies continued to search for their elusive first-ever win Friday night, eventually losing 5-1 to the Napanee Raiders.
The game got off to a hot start when, just 18 seconds in, Napanee’s Logan White scored his third of the season to take a quick 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later the Huskies went to the power play following a Blake Ellis holding penalty but were unable to capitalize.
Just past the midway point of the period, Frankford’s Phoenix Smith was able to get the Huskies on the board, scoring his second goal of the season.
The last few minutes of the period were chippy as Napanee’s Chris Edwards earned a minor and a 10 minute misconduct for head contact and shortly after Frankford’s Kurt Gibbs went to the box for boarding.
Just over 30 seconds into the second period the Raiders capitalized once again to take a 2-1 lead on the strength of Ben Chubbs’ fifth goal of the season.
With the exception of a Huskies power play following a Matthew Sheehy slashing penalty just past the halfway point of the period, the second frame was a relatively quiet one.
One minute into the third period Sheehy notched his fourth goal of the season to extend Napanee’s lead and three minutes later Ben Carter scored to make it 4-1.
Only two minutes later White scored his second of the game to effectively put the game out of reach.
The third period featured a two minute minor and a ten minute misconduct for checking from behind for Napanee’s Isaac Brown, a charging penalty for his teammate Blake Ellis and a boarding minor for Frankford’s Curtis Dicks in what was a very chippy affair.
When the final buzzer sounded the Raiders won 5-1 and improved their record to 11-1, keeping their stranglehold on the East Tod Divison.
Napanee’s Mitchell Brown had to make just 11 saves on 12 shots to collect the win while Frankford’s Hayden Candler stopped 23 of 28 shots against in the losing effort.
White led the way for Napanee on the evening with two goals and an assist for three points.
