The Battle of Quinte has gained a new edge as it was announced Thursday that the Hasty Ps Cup will be built into the OJHL season this year.
Last year, with most hockey on hold due to the pandemic, the Trenton Golden Hawks and the Wellington Dukes came together for an eight-game development series with the winner taking the Hasty Ps Cup.
In a press release Thursday, Wellington Dukes Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Derek Smith announced that they’ll be bringing it back this year.
The cross-bay rivals will play each other eight times during this year’s OJHL regular season schedule and now the competition will be heightened with the return of the Hasty Ps Cup.
Whoever takes the edge in the eight regular season games will be crowned champion of the Bay of Quinte rivalry.
The Dukes and Hawks face off for the first time this season on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Wellington at Lehigh arena.
