Prince Edward County staff will consider a staff recommendation that, if approved, would see Mayor Steve Ferguson write a letter of support to Ontario Premier Doug Ford in support of a national child care program.
In April of this year the federal government announced $30 billion in funding over five years to support a national child care program centred on $10 a day fees and began striking up deals with provinces and territories.
The province of Ontario has yet to reach an agreement and the cities of Toronto and Ottawa have circulated their own letters regarding supporting early childhood education and a national child care program.
Staff are recommending that council approve the recommendation that the mayor write a letter to Premier Doug Ford as well as Minister of Education Stephen Lecce urging the province to act now on national childcare.
Prince Edward County council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Highline hall in Wellington.
