Belleville’s first ever Diwali Festival will be held this Sunday in Market Square.
India is the home of the five-day Diwali Festival which is a religious event with both ritual and entertainment.
It occurs throughout the vast country of India and is described as a festival of lights meant to empower people to find the light within themselves while vanquishing the darkness in their souls.
In Belleville, the festival will last just for the afternoon into the evening and is being organized by local Indians, many of them international students from Loyalist College.
Councillor Sean Kelly is the Chair of the city’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.
“Colourful afternoon at Market Square here in Belleville with the dress, Indian costume, the music, the dancers and the lights.”
Belleville’s Diwali Festival will run from 3 in the afternoon until 7 in the evening this Sunday (October 17).
