It seems there are no easy fixes when it comes to regulating and licensing the growing short term accommodations (STA) business.
In a staff report before Belleville City Council Tuesday afternoon, council will see a recommendation that an outside firm be hired to do an in-depth search to locate, identify, and list STAs currently operating in the city.
AirBnB, Bookings.com, and other such sites don’t provide addresses, owners’ names, or photos so a list is not easily compiled.
In its report staff suggests it’s best to take first steps and identify who’s in the STA business and attempt to collect the Municipal Accommodation Tax from them before creating a regulation and licensing regime.
