A Belleville councillor is concerned that too many residents are being bothered because of a recently passed by-law regulating backyard burns in the city.
Councillor Chris Malette says he’s received several emails and calls from people who are being bothered by smoke coming from the yards of neighbouring properties.
Backyard burning is permitted in urban Belleville, but requires a burn permit from the city.
Malette said some people are experiencing difficulties with breathing because of the fires and will ask for a report on the issue from the city’s Fire Chief Monique Belair.
