A busy motel on Main Street in Wellington is causing some residents concerns.
Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole heard deputations from two residents on Thursday, who both spoke of noise and parking issues, among other matters, with the Lakeside Motel.
Alan MacCharles said the property is overbuilt and overused and called it an out-of-control business.
Amy Bodman questioned whether the motel, which also features a large outdoor bar and restaurant, conforms to its current zoning.
“This is an outdoor bar/restaurant that runs over 12 hours a day, every day of the week. Advertised on its website as the largest outdoor patio in Prince Edward County, placed in the middle of a residential neighbourhood. It is also a bar/restaurant that, over this present season, has functioned very much like an outdoor night club.”
“The Lakeside website boasts of amenities like a restaurant, bar, pool, sauna and lounge, spa services, bike rental, beach access, canoe rental, none of which are mentioned in the definition of a motel or hotel in the by-law. Yet they do fit into the definition of a resort. CH zoning does not allow a resort.”
Bodman also has concerns that the owners are using residential property next door to support the motel’s operations.
