“Hastings County is committed to protecting the health and safety of all of our clients, our residents, our vulnerable patients and and the public at large. As an employer we also have obligations to provide a safe work environment for our staff.”
The county is responsible for child care centres, two long term care homes, and the regional paramedic service.
The new policy applies to all county employees, contractors, volunteers and students as well as members of council and its committees if they attend county facilities.
CAO Jim Pine indicated that by the end of September, staff will be required to provide their vaccination status to his office and there will be some communications to staff coming out shortly.
Thirty days after the end of September, any individuals not fully vaccinated or who do not have an approved medical or creed-based exemption will be placed on an unpaid leave of absence for up to 30 days or until proof of compliance has been submitted.
“After that, anybody who is not fully vaccinated or has a medical pre-based exemption will be required to submit to rapid testing on a daily basis coming into the facilities, and they will be required to complete an educational program.”
