A number of organizations are being recommended for some short-term funding from Hastings County, through a government grant.
Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy is the Government of Canada’s redesigned homelessness program which launched April 1, 2019. The program aims to support individuals and families in 61 designated communities across Canada in maintaining safe, stable and affordable housing with the long-term goal of reducing chronic homelessness by 50% over the next 10 years.
Hastings County has been allocated an additional $659,862 for services and supports in the City of Belleville. This funding must be expended by March 31, 2022.
On August 11, 2021 a staff report to the Community and Human Services Committee identified key areas of need for the City of Belleville as identified through discussions with city staff, community partners and service providers to support persons in need.
At its meeting on Wednesday, the Community and Human Services committee decided to recommend that Grace Inn Shelter in Belleville be given just over $336,197 to increase staffing to deal with increased demand.
It recommended that Integrity Investigative Solutions Inc. be given $297,600 for intervention work with the homeless.
The Community and Human Services department is on the list for an extra $26,065 for housing and homelessness planning, to increase staffing to deal with increased demand.
