Dr. Piotr Oglaza, the Medical Officer of Health says, “The unvaccinated will result in a high number of infections and may end up with number of individuals extremely sick.”
Following the Hastings Prince Edward Board of Health Wednesday, Dr. Oglaza, who announced he is leaving the area, called it, “A pandemic of the unvaccinated.”
“The challenge is we’re getting into a season where respiratory viruses such as COVID-19 are more likely to be transmitted because we change our behaviours. We’re spending more time inside in close proximity.”
Toumishey added, “This is what we’ve seen through historic trends which could be challenging.”
“With so many within our local region of the province that still do not have the same protection of the vaccine we may see thousands of people getting sick. We may see challenges for our hospitals.”
Toumishey tells Quinte News that many people are still not protected and we may see thousands of people getting sick and posing challenges to the hospitals.
“Because of that and the same struggles that we encountered through the other waves where we may see outbreaks, and the same when we look at the many who do not have some protection. We may see thousands of people getting sick and challenges to our hospitals. Outbreaks in businesses and a number of people ill or at risk. This is what we’re worried about going into the fall.”
