Prince Edward County has made clear to the province the need for extending broadband access to its residents.
During the recent meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, the County delegation met with Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Suma about the importance of extending broadband access.
The County wanted to make it clear to the upper level of government this should happen as quickly as possible, and that no areas get left behind.
Mayor Steve Ferguson tells Quinte News he emphasized that the county is “ready to go.”
“We know Prince Edward County better than anybody else so let us work with the province and with the ISP providers to, you know, identify locations where broadband is not just needed but where we’re capable of assisting.”
He indicated funding is an issue as well.
Ferguson says the county will raise the issue of obtaining a share of parks revenue at a meeting of mayors and provincial ministers later this week.
