Tweed is taking on two issues involving its beach at Stoco Lake.
A newcomer to Tweed recently raised the issue of the condition of the beach.
In a letter to Tweed council, Norm Ladouceur said, “It seems to be neglected and full of weeds.”
Ladouceur wrote, “We are having grandchildren visit this weekend and will be using a beach in a nearby town to take the children to. I am quite disappointed about this and would like to find out why citizens of Tweed are not able to use this beautiful lake.”
Mayor Jo-Anne Albert tells Quinte News the village does do weed harvesting but she says “you can only do it at certain times.” Albert says staff have been speaking with the province about the problem.
“There was a report in our council meeting from our recreation manager Rachelle. She and her staff have been looking into it and talking to the ministry.”
“Talking to the ministry, talking to Quinte Conservation, trying to come up with other ways that, you know, besides just weed harvesting that we can do with the weeds. It’s basically the weeds and it’s also the geese. The geese come in. You know what geese do.”
Albert added that “everything depends on the rain and the geese.”
