It looks like there won’t be a waste and recycling question on Tweed’s ballots when the next election rolls around.
At its recent meeting, council defeated a resolution recommending the question be put on the ballot.
The motion, if approved, would have authorized staff to begin a process to put a question on the 2022 election ballot pertaining to waste and recycling pick-up.
Earlier this year, council had received a delegation of citizens of Queensborough calling for the regular pick-up of waste and recyclables.
Council had decided not to start the service in 2021 due to the costs involved and the necessity to finance the service through increased taxes or extra user fees.
A staff report indicates there was also the question of how many of the local residents would want this if it meant property taxes would go up.
Voting day for the municipal election is Monday, October 24, 2022.
The last day to provide notice to the public regarding a question is Saturday, February 19, 2022.
