The City of Quinte West and representatives of Quinte Transit will reveal details on a new Quinte West – Belleville bus route connection Wednesday.
The announcement will mark a long wanted service between the two municipalities.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison was clear on where he stands on the matter.
“This is a big plus for us to get to Belleville because once people get to Belleville, then they can get onto several routes in Belleville and get them to various locations where, in most cases, they have appointments. Either it be doctors or business or whatever, but this is a great move for us from my perspective as mayor. It really moves our Quinte Access above and beyond.”
Harrison said that the connection has been on the books for a long time and that he’s happy to see it come to fruition.
He said that the move is highly beneficial for people who can’t drive and that it further improves the Bay of Quinte region as a whole.
As for the future, Mayor Harrison said that there are many possibilities.
“And this is just the beginning of things that we can do in the future such as expanding our own service here. Depending on how many people choose to use this ridership, we may have to add more buses or we may have to add more connections or more routes and if that’s in the books then that gets people from Frankford to Trenton ward, to Belleville, or from Belleville to Frankford, whatever the connections.”
He also said that he hopes it will expand to a point where people can get between Trenton and Belleville for activities at night such as Belleville Senators games and Trenton Golden Hawks or Frankford Huskies games.
The official launch for the Quinte Transit Quinte West – Belleville route happens Wednesday.
