The next time you visit Picton Metro, you may be asked if you want to donate to a worthy cause in the community.
The Metro store in Picton is about to kick off a two-week fundraising initiative to raise funds to help the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation Back the Build for a new hospital in Prince Edward County.
The in-store fundraiser begins on Thursday, July 29. Metro will be asking customers to donate $2 at the cash register in support of the new hospital campaign. The promotion runs until Wednesday, August 11. Metro has also committed to matching the community’s donations up to $5,000.
Last year, the store raised $16,650 for the new hospital campaign. This year, management and staff at Metro are hoping to beat last year’s result. Thanks to the Paul B. Helliwell Foundation, any donation received through the cash register round up will be matched two-to-one, therefore tripling the impact of each dollar donated.
“We could not achieve our goal of building a new hospital for the residents and visitors of Prince Edward County without support from the community and corporate partners like Metro,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “This initiative will support the future of health care delivery in our community and we are honoured to have the support of the hard-working staff and loyal customers at Metro in Picton.”
Metro was thrilled to partner with the PECMH Foundation on this special fundraiser that engages both residents and visitors to Prince Edward County for a second year. The simple act of donating at the cash register will help Back the Build for a new hospital in Prince Edward County.
“Metro is proud to be partnering with the foundation for a second year,” said Andre Gagne, Vice President, Metro. “I am confident that the store employees and our generous customers will come together and exceed expectations and beat last year’s result. We know firsthand our employees feel connected to their community and they are committed to helping this campaign Back the Build for a new County hospital.”
The grocery retailer is thrilled to again partner with the PECMH Foundation this summer.
“Our employees make us extremely proud and during these challenging times, they have chosen to keep providing for the community,” said Murray Lupenette, store manager of Picton Metro. “Raising money to support the building of our new hospital is a meaningful way to recognize and thank other frontline employees at the hospital. We are grateful to all of our customers who have supported this effort.”
“Metro continues to go above and beyond to help our community and residents and through this giving at the till it enables shoppers, even when it’s a couple of dollars, the opportunity to contribute to our new hospital. Thank you to everyone at Metro for your continued support and enthusiasm. You are incredible leaders in our community,” said Nancy Parks, Back the Build campaign co-chairperson.
With leading edge design and infrastructure, the new hospital will offer the same services as today in a better space. The emergency department will be equipped with the latest technology and staffed with our skilled and dedicated health care professionals. Inside its walls will be a suite of clinics to provide, among other medical services, endoscopy and dialysis treatment. And it will have 20 inpatient rooms that will be larger in size, each equipped with their own private washrooms. Based on current projected timelines, the new hospital construction will be completed in 2027. The PECMH Foundation is commissioned with raising the local share portion of the build, which works out to be $16.5M.
