Hastings Prince Edward Public Health expects to add an Associate Medical Officer of Health to its team in the near future.
Dr. Ethan Toumishey has joined the health unit’s leadership team as Director of Clinical Programs and, subject to the Ministry of Health approval process, will become an Associate Medical Officer of Health (AMOH) in the coming year.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza, says Dr. Toumishey has played an integral role in their pandemic response while completing his residency in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at HPEPH over the past several months.
Dr. Toumishey studied Bio-Medical Science at the University of Ottawa, received his Bachelor of Medicine in 2016 from Dalhousie University, completed a Masters in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Queen’s University and met the requirements for fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in June.
He has worked as an independent family physician and is also a guest lecturer at Queen’s University.
The Public Health Capacity Review Committee recommended that every health unit have at least one Associate Medical Officer of Health.
