The Ottawa Senators have taken care of one of their primary off season needs by re-signing Belleville Senators coach Troy Mann to a two year contract.
Mann has been with Belleville for three seasons coaching them to a 93-67-8-6 record. They were in first place in the American Hockey League’s North Division when the season was cancelled due to COVID on March 11, 2020.
The record speaks for itself however Mann has played a key role in the development of players for the parent NHL team which is in the midst of a rebuild. Mann’s contract expires June 30 and re-signing him was considered a priority for Ottawa.
Ottawa Senators/Belleville Senators General Manager Pierre Dorion says Mann has played a vital role in helping with the development and preparation of countless players, many of whom have recently assumed important roles in Ottawa.
Mann made no secret of the fact he wanted to return.
Due to the pandemic the B-Sens had to play their games in Ottawa this season. Despite the added adversity Mann says it was an enjoyable season.
Mann says there were no discussions with Ottawa about possible opportunities in the future with the NHL club.
Mann expects Belleville will have a strong team again next season.
Prior to joining Belleville the 51-year-old Mann spent four seasons as head coach of the Hershey Bears. Fourteen players from his team were on the roster of the Washington Capitals when they won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
