We might soon hear the call of “play ball” in the South Hastings Baseball League.
Of course there are a lot of things still unknown before that can happen but if the past almost nine decades of their existence tells us anything, it’s that they will play. There has been at least one game every year since the League’s inception 87 years ago, including through wars and pandemics.
Even last year there were 15 games played under a seven-page public health document outlining protocols that had to be adhered to.
The League’s Umpire in Chief, Brad Casey, says they are waiting for word from the province and local public health officials.
The venerable league, which operates outside the Ontario Baseball Association has eight teams ready to go.
Returning to play this season are the Bain Excavating Rockies, Maclan Designs, Melrose Shamrock, Melrose Tal Trees, Parkhurst Tripps Pirates, Read Young Guns, Tyendinaga Mudhens and Uens Pole Line.
Anyone wishing to play or umpire can contact the league through their website: southhastingsbaseballleague.com.
