MPP Randy Hillier is firing back at Belleville’s Police Chief after comments he made Monday morning on the Lorne Brooker Show.
Chief Mike Callaghan discussed the anti-lockdown rally at West Zwick’s Park, which gathered upwards of 200 people. Many then marched to Belleville’s City Hall as part of the demonstration.
Hillier was the guest speaker, he is one of the heads of a political coalition called No More Lockdowns
Here is Chief Callaghan’s discussion with Lorne Brooker.
Chief Callaghan: “We’ve commenced an investigation, we have identified some individuals, which we will be pursuing charges this week.”Lorne Brooker: “Does MPP Hillier … did he break the law by speaking on that stage?”Chief Callaghan: “He is one of the individuals under investigation yes.”

If you do not follow these rules for gatherings:
-
organizers may be fined a minimum of $10,000

“The Chief of Police is abusing his office and abusing the law. Our constitution protects our freedom to assemble.”
He added that the constitution is to be used as a shield, not a sword. He added he is concerned about the Chief of Police not understanding his oath of office. He says he is concerned that public health administrators and elected officials are indicating to people they can act unlawfully.
“Chief of Police Callaghan can come and investigate me any day of the week that he wants, and I look forward to meeting him in a court of law to discuss his investigation.”
Hillier’s conversation Monday with Quinte News can be heard below.
