Hastings County is taking part in the CAMSAFE program with Belleville police, registering the locations of security cameras.
A report to Hastings County Community and Human Services Committee on Wednesday indicated it is only for the location of the cameras and no further information.
If police require any information regarding an incident they can ask the owner.
Community and Human Services Director Erin Rivers said they will be registering cameras to be outfitted at the county’s 17 social housing properties, as well as the main county building and Hastings Manor.
Police Services board Vice-Chair Councillor Kelly McCaw told the meeting that this will go a long way toward “making Belleville the safest place in Ontario.”
The report by county Director of Information Technology Larry Dean, CAMSAFE is only for locations of the cameras and a contact person.
No other information is necessary.
If an incident occurs in an area of the city, officers can log into the CAMSAFE admin site, geofence an area, such as Google maps and see where cameras are located and the contact information.
People or businesses registering can put as much detail as they want in the account, including screenshots of what the camera captures.
