On April 12, 2021 at 2:30 p.m., Belleville police responded to a theft of a catalytic converter from a business in the northeast industrial park. An investigation revealed that between April 9 2021 at 6:00 p.m. and April 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., unknown suspect(s) stole a single converter from a vehicle at this location. Catalytic converters, along with copper and other metals have been a hot commodity for thieves. Theft of these items has become popular because of their value, relative ease to steal (unbolt or cut out), and their lack of identifying markings. These converters are a part of the vehicle exhaust system, and help reduce vehicle pollution. Anyone with information on who may be responsible for this theft is asked to please contact investigating officer Cst. Joe Yanch #151 at (613) 966-0882 ext. 4151 or by e-mail at: jyanch@police.belleville.on.ca or by contacting Crime Stoppers at (613) 969-8477.
