Belleville Council has followed up on a decision made at Tuesday night’s meeting and has issued a letter to provincial officials, asking that teachers and manufacturing workers be moved up the ladder in Ontario’s vaccine rollout.
The letter from Mayor Mitch Panciuk is addressed to Premier Doug Ford, Health Minister Christine Elliott, Education Minister Stephen Lecce and Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Williams.
It cites teachers’ work “in settings with prolonged exposure to many children in unventilated rooms” as the main reason that educators should be moved up the list.
The letter goes on to say that even though numbers have been good in the HPE area “we have had outbreaks in our manufacturing sector and we believe those employees should also be included.”
It concludes by recognizing that vaccinations are a matter of supply, but that the city believes it s reasonable to include these groups in the currently eligible population.
