After an extremely tough year both locally and worldwide, Prince Edward County council is bringing hope to the county.
At Tuesday’s council meeting Mayor Steve Ferguson proclaimed that Prince Edward County is joining the Hope Is Growing campaign for 2021.
The national initiative is for people from coast to coast to plant “hope gardens” boasting yellow flowers or plants, the international colour of hope.
Participants can register their gardens online where a map can be seen identifying everyone country-wide who has grown and registered their own hope garden.
Once participants register their hope gardens, they are encouraged to share pictures on social media using the hashtag #HopeIsGrowing. Once a person registers their garden they’ll eligible for national recognition for their efforts.
The Hope Is Growing campaign in the county will kick off in front of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, where a hope garden will be planted in May.
Mayor Ferguson was highly supportive of the initiative.
“I think this is a terrific idea and if ever there was a time that it’s needed, it is right now. I can’t think of a better place to put it than in front of the hospital.”
