Belleville Council has officially declared the seat of Ryan Williams vacant and has given unanimous support to have it filled by Carol Feeney, who was the next in line in the 2018 municipal election.
Councillors agreed on Monday that there was no need to go through an extended selection process, as was the case in late 2020 when Tyler Allsopp was eventually appointed to fill the seat of late Councillor Pat Culhane.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk says all councillors agreed that Feeney’s experience makes her a good fit.
“After the last election, Carol Feeney did not just disappear. She serves currently on two boards for the City of Belleville and applied for the vacant council position back in January. She just wants to serve the city and so, I think she’s going to make an excellent councillor and I’m looking forward to welcoming her.”
Feeney currently sits on Belleville’s Transit committee and Belleville Library Board, and had been the executive director of the Quinte Arts Council for 15 years.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk says he spoke to Feeney about the prospect of filling the seat last week and she’s expected to be sworn in on Tuesday morning.
