The mayor of Centre Hastings has paid tribute to the local support he has received in campaigning for a long term care home in his municipality.
Speaking at the virtual meeting of Hastings County Council on Thursday, Deline thanked the county for its support of the 25-years-long campaign to get a long term care home approved by the province.
Deline pointed out that that approval is now in place for a 128-bed home, the Clara McFaul Long Term Care in Madoc.
It will be privately built by Universal Long Term Care Canada.
He expects work to begin this year.
Deline told Quinte News it will also be a boost to Centre Hastings.
“There will be a tax base with it, 300 jobs, or a couple hundred jobs anyway. They will buy products. The local organizations can help volunteer too.”
Deline hopes the province approves people from the local area as residents.
“Hopefully people from this area, if they need it, will be able to get the care there and not have to be moved miles from their family and their community. That’s my hope.”
