The manager of the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce says the Ontario budget released yesterday is good news for the business community.
Suzanne Andrews says the budget has wide-ranging support for businesses that are struggling most with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the tourism and hospitality sector which is very important in the Quinte region.
But there’s one item in the budget that really stands out.
“What was of particular interest in our region of course was the huge $2 billion investment in broadband. This is something that we’ve all been lobbying really hard for. We know that we have to have good quality viable high speed internet in order to attract and retain businesses here in the Quinte region.”
Andrews says there’s always concern when governments add more to deficits but the payback can be spread over many years and addressing immediate concerns have to take priority as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
