Contract negotiations continue with a company that will provide increased cellular service in eastern Ontario.
Two companies, Rogers and Bell Mobility, bid on the contract, and negotiations narrowed down to one.
Hastings County CAO Jim Pine, who has been working on the project for the Eastern Ontario Regional Network, would not reveal which company.
Following Thursday’s meeting of County Council, Pine told Quinte News, “In November the Eastern Ontario Regional Network Board of Directors identified a preferred proponent, one of the companies that bid, and since then we’ve been working with that company to negotiate a full commercial contract in order to get the construction work underway. Those negotations are going well and we’re hopeful that a contract will be completed in the next number of weeks. Then the federal and provincial governments, the appropriate ministers, will make an announcement who the successful company is.”
He tells Quinte News “negotiations are making good progress.”
“The timing will be dictated by the federal and provincial governments. So, a few weeks, maybe a few after that. I’m not sure. But it’s close now, closer than we were for sure before.”
The idea is to close the gaps in cellular service in Eastern Ontario, where people work and travel, so they can have better service.
