Quinte region residents packed almost 3,000 shoeboxes with toys, school and hygiene supplies and other items last year for poverty stricken children living in Central America and western Africa.
The local effort was part of Samaritan’s Purse Canada’s Operation Christmas Child program.
In total Canadians stuffed 373,000 gift-filled shoeboxes that are now arriving at their destinations.
Locally, residents in Belleville packed almost 1,400 shoeboxes, those in Trenton contributed just over 1,200 and Picton residents chipped in with 200.
