While there is still plenty of uncertainty around what the calendar might look like heading into next fall, the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board is still planning ahead, and looking for input on the school calendar from parents, students and board employees.
The online survey gives three options to choose from, which outline the potential start and end dates for the 2021/22 school year, along with dates for the winter break, March break and some PA days.
The options are as follows:
Option 1: Proposed Ministry of Education calendar
Students return to school: September 1, 2021, ahead of Labour Day
- First PA Day: September 3, 2021 (Friday), ahead of Labour Day
- Last instructional day of the school year: June 27, 2022
- Last PA Day: June 28, 2022
- Secondary Semester 2 begins: February 1, 2022 (Tuesday)
- Follows a PA Day on January 31, 2022 (Monday)
- Winter Break: December 20, 2021 to December 31, 2021
- Mid-Winter Break: March 14, 2022 to March 18, 2022
Option 2: One PA Day to start the school year
Students return to school: September 7, 2021, after Labour Day
- First PA Day: September 3, 2021 (Friday), ahead of Labour Day
- Last instructional day of the school year: June 29, 2022
- Last PA Day: June 30, 2022
- Secondary Semester 2 begins: February 3, 2022 (Thursday)
- Follows a PA Day on February 2, 2022 (Wednesday)
- Winter Break: December 20, 2021 to December 31, 2021
- Mid-Winter Break: March 14, 2022 to March 18, 2022
Option 3: Two PA Days to start the school year
Students return to school: September 7, 2021, after Labour Day
- First PA Days: September 2, 2021 and September 3, 2021, ahead of Labour Day
- Last instructional day of the school year: June 28, 2022
- Last PA Day: June 29, 2022
- Secondary Semester 2 begins: February 2, 2022 (Wednesday)
- Follows a PA Day on February 1, 2022 (Tuesday)
- Winter Break: December 20, 2021 to December 31, 2021
- Mid-Winter Break: March 14, 2022 to March 18, 2022
The HPEDSB is also consulting with the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and the Limestone District School Board, on which proposed calendar would fit best.
