A proposed large mixed residential development in Picton featuring 290 residential units is being opposed by many residents in the area.
Prince Edward County’s Planning Advisory Committee heard from several people opposed to the so-called “Talbot on the Trail” development
during a marathon four and a half hour meeting Wednesday.
The meeting was suspended before midnight and will be completed before council’s regular 7 p.m. meeting starting at 5:30 tomorrow (Tuesday).
Various speakers said the proposal from Port Picton Homes was too dense and didn’t fit in the neighbourhood and the overall vision for the county.
The development, with frontage on Talbot Street and the Millennium Trail features two-storey townhouses and three- to four-storey stacked townhouses.
County staff have recommended council approve Official Plan and zoning amendments to allow the development.
Meanwhile earlier at Wednesday’s meeting council did approve rezoning for a planned townhouse development with 96 units on Maple Street in Wellington.
Also, it approved an Official Plan amendment, zoning changes, and Draft Plan of Subdivision for a proposed eight-phase mixed housing development that
when complete would feature almost 700 units on land off Consecon Street in Wellington.
