Nobody was hurt in a fire in the northern part of Quinte West this afternoon.
Crews from the stations in Frankford and Batawa responded to a two-storey home on Mill Street, around 1:45 p.m., where flames broke out while the homeowner was doing some renovations.
Fire Chief John Whelan says the home’s aluminum construction and layers of insulation made it difficult to fight the blaze, but firefighters had it under control by 3:30.
Whelan says firefighters were able to save a cage of hamsters, but the house was substantially damaged, to the tune of about $250,000.
Mill Street was closed in that area while crews cleared up the scene.
