The fall season is just getting underway, but plans are already in the works for the 2020 Festival of Lights at Belleville’s waterfront.
The city has announced that the festival will return for its 61st season from November 20 to January 4, 2021.
In an effort to reduce the risk of large gatherings, lighting displays will be featured in several different parks along the waterfront, including Victoria Park, Jane Forrester Park, South Foster Park/Memory Lane and Rotary Fitness Park.
Visitors will be able to travel through each of the displays by car.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News, “In a year like this, with COVID-19, it’s time to celebrate.”
What started as a small loving tribute to Billy Foster and Art “Sonny” Culloden whose lives were taken in a tragic car accident on Christmas Eve in 1958, has grown into an annual community tradition that sees thousands of visitors each year.
Lighting Display and Gateway Signage Committee Chair Annis Ross, says in a statement, “Each year we are fortunate and grateful to have so many community members step up to make this display possible. This year in particular, it is important that residents have the opportunity to experience the joy and wonder of this display. We know that COVID-19 has had an impact on many residents and businesses. We would like to ask, those who can, to consider donating whatever they can to the display. All donations no matter the size are greatly appreciated.”
