A 25-year-old man from Tweed faces numerous charges in relation to Domestic Assault allegations, as well as fleeing from police.
At 11:30 p.m. on September 21, 2020, officers from the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports that a woman had been threatened and assaulted in her home in Tweed the previous evening.
Officers located a suspect in the early morning hours of September 22, 2020, but the male fled in a vehicle after being placed under arrest. The vehicle was later located abandoned in a farm field.
Central Hastings OPP members, a long with the OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit conducted a search of the area and the accused person was taken into custody.
The male has been charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Assault – two counts
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from peace officer
- Fail to comply with Probation Order
- Fail to comply with release order
The accused, who cannot be identified in order to protect the identity of the victim, is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 22, 2020.
