The Belleville Police Service’s Drug, Intelligence, and Street Crime Unit had a busy second quarter of this year.
In the three months ending June, 30 people were arrested by the unit which also includes two OPP officers.
A total of 125 criminal charges were laid.
The unit executed search warrants in eight locations, seizing over $18,000 worth of illegal drugs, $12,000 in cash, and 15 firearms, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns.
Drugs seized included magic mushrooms, cocaine, hashish, crystal meth, and fentanyl.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic is seen as both a good thing and a bad thing when it comes to traffic safety in the City of Belleville.
The Belleville Police Service has released statistics showing officers laid a total of 304 traffic act charges in the months of April, May, and June, a figure that includes 226 speeding tickets.
That total is well below that of the second quarter of last year. Police say there were fewer vehicles on the road due to the lockdown.
However, police noticed that when breaking speed limits, people tended to be driving faster than previously.
In the second quarter this year, four stunt driving charges were laid.
