Normally the OJHL would be knee deep into their exhibition schedule by now, but no games doesn’t mean no news.
The Wellington Dukes have named defenceman Ben Addison as the team’s captain for the upcoming season.
Dukes head coach Derek Smith says Addison exemplifies what it means to be a Duke. He conducts himself in a professional manner at the rink and is a great roll model in the community. Smith adds “Ben is the kind of person and player that our players look up to with his work ethic and team-first mentality.”
Addison was excited to have his name added to a long history of Dukes captains in Wellington. “It feels great to be named captain of the Dukes. I am honoured to take on this role with such a first class organization. We have such a supportive community behind us and I am looking forward to an amazing season with the Dukes.”
Addison has been a part of two very successful Dukes teams since joining the team in the 2018-19 season. In his first season with the Dukes, Addison registered 12 points (12 assists) in 41 games and went on to add 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists) in a run to the Buckland Cup Final where the team fell to the Oakville Blades.
In his 2nd season with the team, Addison took on a bigger role with the team on both offensive and defensive ends of the ice. In 49 games, Addison increased his point total to 33 (8 goals, 25 assists), helping the Dukes to the league’s best record. In the playoffs, Ben added another 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) in a 4 game sweep of the Cobourg Cougars.
