The Belleville General Hospital Foundation is touting a well-timed legacy gift from a local resident and former long-time employee of the hospital.
The foundation has received more than $337,000 to date from the estate of Ruth Cadieux, which will be used to improve mental health services and supports throughout BGH, by buying laptops to support virtual services and making some internal improvements to hospital facilities.
Officials are expecting that bequest to end up closer to $460,000 eventually.
BGHF Executive Director Steve Cook says calls to the crisis centre at BGH are up 40% since the pandemic, so this gift from someone who was a big proponent of mental health care comes at a perfect time.
Cook says, “This transformational gift will ensure that Ruth’s values live on into the future with enormous benefits to society.”
