Quinte West has implemented water restrictions for the Frankford-Batawa water supply service area. The Frankford-Batawa water treatment plant is experiencing difficulty keeping up with water demands due to the recent period of hot, dry weather. This period has also seen an increase in water consumption for outdoor use.
Municipal addresses in Frankford and Batawa are only permitted to water their lawns and gardens at the following times:
-
Even-numbered addresses: 7 to 9 p.m. on even-numbered days
-
Odd-numbered addresses: 7 to 9 p.m. on odd-numbered days
These restrictions will allow the City to ensure the continuous supply of water for household use and fire protection. Residents should expect these restrictions to remain in place until mid-September or until the area receives a period of sustained precipitation.
Quinte West is finalizing an environmental assessment to develop a connection between the Trenton and Batawa-Frankford water treatment plants to minimize the need for future restrictions. This link will be constructed in the future, with the exact date to be determined subject to the assessment results and budget deliberations.
