Northumberland County will be inviting residents to provide feedback on the proposed design for the future Campbellford Bridge and improvements to the surrounding road network through an upcoming online public consultation process.
The new bridge will connect Second Street and Alma Street across the Trent River in Campbellford. Related proposed road improvements include:
- Minor modifications to intersections on Simpson Street, Alma Street, Second Street and Cockburn Street
- A new roundabout at Alma Street and Grand Road
- A new laneway between Frank Street and Saskatoon Avenue
In 2017, the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) approved the Environmental Assessment for the new proposed bridge. With this approval, Northumberland County hired GHD to complete further site investigations and a detailed design of the bridge and surrounding road improvements. Site investigations included geotechnical borehole drilling on land and in the Trent River, ecological surveys, a noise assessment, and archaeological and cultural heritage investigations.
The upcoming community consultation will have two components. Due to ongoing restrictions related to COVID-19, these will be arranged online and by phone. The first component will be a self-directed consultation opportunity where residents can review materials and provide feedback through a dedicated website. The second component will be a telephone and online Question and Answer (Q&A) session.
Residents are invited to participate in this community consultation to:
- Learn about and provide feedback on the proposed design for the new Campbellford Bridge and related proposed updates to the surrounding road network;
- Discuss questions and comments with the County and project team at one of two Q&A sessions
