Festival on the Bay in downtown Trenton is still weeks away, however, one of the marquee events is almost full.
The Dragon Boat Festival is back on the water Saturday July 20 at Kiwanis Park, along the Trent River.
Aquatics supervisor for the YMCA, CEO Tiffany Dranski (event organizer), tells Quinte News that eight of the ten teams have already been confirmed.
“This is our fifth annual. We had a bit of a break during COVID, but we came back. We’re super excited because the Trent River is such a fantastic race course.”
She adds the event is a lot of fun and there will be teams travelling from outside the Quinte region.
“So we race out of the Trenton Rowing and Paddling Club, right on the Trent River, across from Tomasso’s. The finish line is actually Tomasso’s, and we start down more at the north bridge.”
Dranski says all funds raised go to support the Strong Kids Campaign.
“Yeah, absolutely. All the money goes to local children, stays right in the community, so it’s helpful. With summer camps coming and starting July 2, this money is going to help a lot more kids enjoy camp.”
The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is an annual fundraising campaign, focused on raising much-needed funds to support children, youth and families in our community by giving them the opportunity to participate in programming, membership and day camp opportunities, regardless of their financial situation.
