The City of Belleville is assuring residents there is no reason for concern regarding the recent, slight discolouration noted in the tap water in some areas of the city.
“Hot temperatures and lack of rainfall have had an impact on our water’s appearance. The city’s weekly bacteriological test results assure us the problem is aesthetic only and the water safety has not been altered in any way,” said Perry Decola, General Manager Environmental Services.
“We are confident in the quality and safety of the water and ask residents to be patient as we work to address this issue and return the colour to normal,” Decola adds.
The city is also reminding residents that the annual hydrant flushing is currently being conducted. This is not connected to the discolouration described.
Flushing can cause sediment to be stirred up for a few minutes. Customers drawing water at the time of flushing in their area can experience reddish water.
